Accudata Systems Participates in Cybersecurity Forum Panel Hosted by the Greater Houston Partnership
Director of Accudata Systems’ Data Center and Security Practices, Vid Sista Participates in Panel During the Cybersecurity Forum Hosted by the Greater Houston Partnership.
September 30, 2015 – Houston, Texas – On September 25, 2014, the Greater Houston Partnership hosted the state’s leading cybersecurity experts for the second Cybersecurity Forum at the JW Marriott. Vid Sista, Director of Accudata Systems’ Data Center and Security practices, served on the event’s first expert panel, which focused on specific issues impacting SMBs as well as recommendations to combat cybersecurity concerns. Topics included the importance of having both a cyber risk strategy and a regulatory risk strategy, as well as how to secure the operations environment in addition to the IT environment. As the group discussed the evolution of cybersecurity, Mr. Sista stressed that “dual factor authentication will become the standard for securing the business environment.” While attendees had concerns that employees would be inconvenienced with increased security measures, Mr. Sista emphasized that awareness and education are critical to company-wide adoption and acceptance of security policies and procedures.
Although security budgets have increased significantly, there is still need for more resources, both human capital and financial. The Forum’s keynote speaker Brian Engle, Chief Information Security Officer for the State of Texas, referenced a study by NASCIO and Deloitte, which states, “CISOs recognize the importance of cybersecurity, but continue to struggle to gain adequate budgets and stakeholder buy-in,” and adds that, of those surveyed, “92 percent recognize that cybersecurity is the most important” security initiative.
