Accudata’s Changing Lives One Wish at a Time

2016 was an incredible year of giving back for the Accudata Systems family.  Each quarter, the Accudata Charity Committee challenged our employees with a different initiative to assist local non-profit charitable organizations.  It paid off! Our efforts benefited local children and their families across Texas.

Quarterly Charity Initiatives

Our quarterly initiatives benefitted different charitable organizations throughout Texas, like The Giving Gown Foundation for whom Accudata team members cleaned out their closets and donated more than 30 formal gowns to local teens so they could attend their high school dances.  Another organization that benefited from our Spring Cleaning for a Cause initiative was the Star of Hope.  The Star of Hope received more than 50 warm coats so Houstonians could stay warm during the winter months.

Accudata team members also donated their time to Habitat for Humanity to help build an affordable house for a local family in Montgomery County.

In July, Accudata team members united to donate backpacks filled with school supplies to the YMCA Operation Backpack Drive. The drive helped local students start the school year off on the right foot with the supplies required to succeed in school.  Over 90 children received new backpacks and school supplies!

Closing out 2016

As we closed out 2016, we focused our charitable efforts to unite around an Accudata employee’s four-year-old son who is currently fighting Neuroblastoma.

One of the ways we gave back to this precious young boy was to host a blood drive in his name benefitting the Gulf Coast Regional Bank.  Our local center is always in need of blood, and the Accudata team stepped up in a big way!  For the four short hours the donor coach was at the Accudata corporate office, we surpassed the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center’s expectations by receiving 40 blood donors!

Fundraising for the Make-A-Wish Foundation has always been near and dear to Accudata Systems, but in 2016 it meant much more.  The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.  This year our partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation hit close to home. We wanted to be able to send our employee’s son to Disney World, where he could enjoy his passion for carnivals, dinosaurs, waterparks, and fishing all in one place.

As we embarked on our Make-A-Wish fundraising journey, we needed to raise $7,500, the average cost of making a child’s wish come true.  The Accudata Systems team rallied around our annual fundraiser – the Penny & Benny Wars – which allowed office and remote team members to donate change while departments competed against each other to raise the most money and, of course, secure bragging rights for the year!  We were sure 2015’s Penny Wars would be hard to beat (we raised $3,800 in 2015), but our employees did not disappoint in 2016.  This year’s Penny & Benny Wars raised more than $4,400!

We were on our way to reaching our financial goal for Make-A-Wish, but we had one more fundraiser to complete – the Accudata Systems Charity Raffle.  We continue to have incredible support from our partners who donated raffle prizes from Yeti coolers to sporting event tickets and gift cards, just to name a few.  With the support and the amazing hearts of the Accudata family, we raised more than $15,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2016!  The Accudata Systems family is thrilled to enrich the life of not only one child by sending him to Disney World, but we were able to make an additional wish come true as well.

A look ahead

The Accudata Charity Committee is already hard at work planning initiatives for the new year. We’re looking forward to new opportunities to donate time and resources to local families, while engaging in some healthy competition. In 2016, we were thrilled to receive the Wish Maker Award from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and we welcome the chance to grant more wishes in 2017!
